Hope's Journey Bag Outreach

“No one has ever become poor by giving.”
Anne Frank, diary of Anne Frank

Have you ever encountered a homeless person on the side of the road, or outside your supermarket, or in various locations in your town? Have you felt urge to help them, but didn't know how to safely or didn't have the means to help them at that time? The homeless population in my town is vast and growing. We do not know their story, but we can be part of their hope!

Hope's Journey Bags is an Bag Outreach concept that I have been wanting to implement in my church. I have seen bags like this before , but I decided to name my version of the bag Hope's Journey because no matter where we are in life or what life throws at us, as long as we have faith in God there is always HOPE!

Please take the concept of the bag back to your church and communities and design your own Bag Outreach program.

Here is a list of thing that would be great inclusions in the bag, but feel free to put whatever you desire in your bags.

Good Bye

As Saturday evening draws to a close, we are reminded that tomorrow we will say Good Bye. I am very thankful for each of you. Our class was fueled by your thoughts, your opinions, and your personalities. I hope that as you go back to your lives in your towns you will be mindful of the new person in your schools, your church, and you communities. Lead by example, bring about the change you want to see in the world!

Let us pray for each other as we depart from here and travel back to our homes.  And continue to lift up the prayer requests in our prayer circle.

Thank you very much for a wonderful class. I hope you all will come back next year!

God Bless,

Pooh Mack

The Scriptures Part 2: Blog Assignment #4

More scriptures that pertain to Immigration:

Ruth 1:16 ESV

But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.

1 Timothy 5:8 ESV

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Psalm 137:1-9 ESV

By the waters of Babylon, there we sat down and wept, when we remembered Zion. On the willows there we hung up our lyres. For there our captors required of us songs, and our tormentors, mirth, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” How shall we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land? If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill! ...

1 Peter 2:13-14 ESV

Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.

Titus 3:1 ESV

Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,

Luke 13:29-30 ESV

And people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God. And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”

Luke 13:29 ESV

And people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 6:30-31 ESV

People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his appetite when he is hungry, but if he is caught, he will pay sevenfold; he will give all the goods of his house.

Post a comment on how you can put the scriptures into action. How will you live God's word today, tomorrow, and every day there after?

Blog Assignment #2

Blog Assignment #2

It is wise to become very familiar with your vocabulary terms handout..... the knowledge you gain will give you a "competitive edge" during tomorrows class!

“The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.”
Thomas A. Edison

The Scriptures Part 1 : Blog Assignment #3

Here are some scriptures that pertain to immigration:

Leviticus 19:33-34 ESV

“When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

Malachi 3:5 ESV

“Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.

Jeremiah 7:5-7 ESV

“For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly execute justice one with another, if you do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever.

Ezekiel 47:22 ESV

You shall allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the sojourners who reside among you and have had children among you. They shall be to you as native-born children of Israel. With you they shall be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.

Hebrews 13:2 ESV

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Post a comment on your thoughts about what these scriptures are telling us to do.

Well said teacher, well said!

"What is it that you don't see our Lord doing? Hanging on the cross sportin' shoes!"

How does this clip from "Angela's Ashes" reflect your attitude or opinions about immigrants? Society is so quick to laugh at or shame those who are the least of these, but what does the scriptures say about the least of these? How are you living the Word of God in a society where standing up for one another is most often taboo?

POST CLASS REFLECTIONS

I believe that our first class went very well!! It was exciting to see all of us interacting with each other and the using technology to take our classroom experience to another level!
Tracing our family roots was a great way to explore where our family migrated from. Keep tracing your roots, don't get discouraged if your tree isn't progressing like you want it to, or if you hit a dead end. All it takes is one little green leaf to pop up, theres no telling what surprises are waiting for you!
I hope that you enjoyed our time together....there's more in store for you tomorrow :)

Leave a comment with your thoughts about our first class.

Crossing the Boarder

HOT TOPIC: How do you feel about boarder patrol and regulating illegal, non citizens from entering the US? How do you feel about the term "Illegal Alien?" How do you feel about those who leave food and water for those who are trying to cross into the US? How do you feel about Boarder Patrol officers destroying that food and water before the illegal, non citizens can get to it?

Diverse Communities

Migration/ Immigration has many pros and cons. If you made a list, what qualities and affects would be on it?

Visual Migration

I think this is a good representation of human migration.

Coming Together

Welcome to the Young Adult study on migration! I'm so happy that you decided to spend your weekend here at Mission u and take part in this study. We will spend our time together learning about migration, immigration, and the affects it has on our communities. I have been asked to facilitate the study, but I expect to learn as much from you as you will from me!

Thank you and welcome!
